If you are a Specifier, Purchaser or an end user then BAFE should be a vital part of your selection process when appointing the appropriate contractor for your proposed works. The Fire Sector by Century 21 is devoted to protecting lives and property from fire in conjunction with ensuring compliance with current regulations, therefore the importance that the company being employed is independently verified under the BAFE scheme.
With the introduction of the new legislation there is a requirement for fire safety services and equipment to the provided by “competent persons”. Eleven guidelines have been issued by the government aimed at specific business areas to help employers and owners understand their responsibilities.
Common to the guides is section 8: “Third Party Certification schemes for fire protection and products and related services are an effective means of providing the fullest possible assurances, offering a level of quality, reliability and safety that non-certified products may lack. Third Party Quality Assurances can offer comfort both as a means of satisfying you that the goods and services you have purchased are fit for purpose, and as a means of demonstrating that you have complied with the law”.
It is therefore important that you ensure the company being appointed to carry out the fire safety work is competent and can provide a certificate of conformity.
